Celebrating World Trade Month
President Franklin Roosevelt in 1935, officially proclaimed World Trade Week as a national observance to recognize the importance of international commerce to our economy and way of life. Today, in many parts of the world, the week encompasses the entire month of May. The Commercial Service will be supporting local events across the country and around the world during May to help bring home the bene f its of trade. Here are a few of our World Trade Month highlights:
· Colombia Tariff Ticker. U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez and leaders of Congress unveiled the “Colombia Tariff Ticker,” which tracks the dollar value of tariffs since the signing of the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement 520 days ago. As the Tariff Ticker approaches the $1 billion mark, the Agreement awaits Congressional approval. Find the ticker at http://trade.gov/index.asp.
· We are working to provide you with superior service. The Co m mercial Service has standardize its fees and is working to expand its reach on your behalf.
· Kenya is open for business.
